What's going on...

A brief list of what's going on around here...

Just checking in...
  • A year ago it was like 80 degrees and the last few days we've been barely making it past 40.  But regardless, we decided we all could use some fresh air while we wait for the dirty piles of snow to melt.
  •  Other than that we've been busy.  Just the regular kind of busy: toddler, work, house, and trying to exercise a little.  Add a little tv and internet time for good measure.
  • While I make no promises, I started working out again.  But the discovery of the ENTIRE series of Law & Order SVU on Hulu is helping combat boredom on the treadmill.  And Daria.
  • I still have a backlog of blogging, and I'll slowly start trying catching up.
  • We've been planning our garden and starting seeds.
  • Scout's hair is getting shaggy, and Rykert's been practicing putting pig tails in.  It's a work in progress, but cracks me up.  The picture above is after they were cleaned up by the ladies at day care.
  • I've been thinking about a second birthday that's only a month away.  No big party this year. Probably just cake.  But I'm still debating on a gift.  A wood dollhouse?  A balance bike?
  • Scout is asserting her independence more and more.  She has definite opinions about what she wants, how she wants things done, and who she wants to do things for her (e.g., "No, daddy do it.")  But at night she still likes to cuddle and rock and asks me to "sing mo' songs" in her efforts to push back bedtime.  I'm not much of a singer and can never remember the words to songs.  So a few nights ago I resorted to singing Sir Mix-a-Lot, Vanilla Ice, and the theme song to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air."  Oddly, she loved it.  The lesson is that I need to re-learn some toddler-friendly folk songs, because "T'inkle T'inkle" (her fave that she can't.get.out.of.her.head) can't be on constant repeat.
  • I'm perplexed at the impact of daylight savings time.  Somehow, it seems to be causing her to get up earlier.  So we're pushing bedtime back a little to see if she'll go back to sleeping in until 8 or later, because we are spoiled.  I"m not optimistic, but I'm not really complaining either.
  • Meanwhile, she still has baby fever.  Though this poor baby did get abandoned halfway down the block as Scout instead started searching for sticks for Nola.
