Heartbreakingly Cute, Part I

The last few finished knitting projects have been kind of bittersweet.  Very cute, but somehow a little off.  So let's have a change of pace...

My younger sister is expecting her first baby next month (which is just a few more weeks).  And it's a boy!!!  A few weeks ago, we had a baby shower to celebrate.  I actually got to work on the gift well in advance so it would be done with plenty of time to spare.

It's a cabled Grandpa sweater.

Gramps Cardigan 02

The pattern is called the Gramps Cardigan, and I used Cascade 220 Superwash (2 balls - with enough for a hat too). The pattern was fun to knit once I got back into the groove of knitting cables (which are kind of addictive), and my only concern with the pattern is on the sizing.  I knit the 12 month size, but honestly it looks closer to 6 or 9 month.  I just hope it fits at some point and not in the middle of the summer.

To pull together the sophisticated look, I made a little onesie with a bowtie.

The bow ties were surprisingly simple.  I sewed snaps onto the back of the bowties and then on to the onesies so they can be mixed and matched and washed.  I have some more baby gifts to make, so I'll try to document my process next time.

I think it makes a rather dapper look.

Stay tuned for Part II - coming soon.
