In the comments to my previous post, Mandy asked whether we had Elmo when we were kids. I don't have any memory of Elmo, but Wikipedia says that Elmo was alive and cooking (born in 1972 as "Baby Monster", but he is a perpetual 3 and a half years old) in some form during my Sesame Street years. He just didn't hit the big time until he puppeted (is that a word) by Kevin Clash. Which reminded me that I really want to see the documentary Being Elmo.
Anyway, speaking of Elmo, here's another thing toddlers like. One of the most irritating iPhone apps ever.
If you accidentally turn this app on while your phone is in your back pocket, Elmo's voice will scare the bejeezus out of you.
Personally, I'm not an Elmo fan. I prefer the traditional Sesame Street characters like Oscar, Big Bird, and Grover. There's too much Elmo for my taste on all the Sesame Street episodes and DVDs. But those Sesame Street people are geniuses, because kids are just crazy about him. And he is better than that horrible scourge, Baby Bear.
