Pea Coat

The Halloween costume is officially done.  There's a lovely cape and a toddler sized traditional cap.  I didn't struggle her into it this weekend for a photo shoot, because it was "weening".  For those of you that don't speak Scout, "weening" used in a sentence: "It's weening cats and dogs."  And it "weened" all weekend long.  So maybe this week or next weekend I'll get her into it for some preview pictures while the sun is shining.

In the meantime, I made her a little coat during naptimes this weekend.

Pea Coat

The coat is a red cotton 21 wale corduroy* purchased at Home Ec Workshop.  I like it, which is good because I over-bought so I think I'll make her a little dress as well.  The lining is the Very Hungry Caterpillar cotton.  I've had the caterpillar fabric for awhile.  I think that it would be cozier with flannel, and I'm considering making a second in wool with flannel.

The pattern is from Etsy.  I highly recommend the pattern.  It was surprisingly and deceptively simple and quick to sew.

As you can see, it still needs 4 buttons.  I can't decide.  Red?  Green?  Fabric covered?  The print is too big to use for the buttons.  Anyone have any thoughts on buttons?  Once it's finished, I'll post new pictures of it being modeled.  I made a size 2T hoping that it would fit this fall and then again int he spring, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen or not.  But it does fit now, so that's good.

*I learned what the term "wale" means in terms of corduroy.  It's the numbers of ridges per inch.  So 21 wale is a fine wale.  And this particular fabric is super soft.  Wikipedia also tells me that there is a rapper named Wale.

THAT is adorable. Love it, like really, really love it. Like I think you should make it and sell it to Quinn's mommy : ) ha. As for buttons, I have zero sewing/fashion sense but I think white fabric ones would look adorable. Especially if she can wear it into the spring with the sleeves rolled up like that. If you go green, it may look Christmasy. But that's my non professional, non-crafty opinion so probably not worth very much!!
