Months and months ago, my sisters and I signed up for The Color Run. We considered a few different cities, but ultimately decided to head to Kansas City. Of course, after we were long registered, they announced a date more local.
So what is the color run? Basically, it's a 5K run/walk. You start the event wearing a crisp white shirt, and at various stages (about every 1K) they douse you with a colored powder. By the end you are quite colorful. At the finish line there is a color festival where everyone showers you with even more of the colored powder, and you have your own packet to throw on your fellow runners.

I would highly recommend The Color Run for a non-serious 5K. Some people did run, but I would say the vast majority seemed to walk. There were walkers of every age and in every physical shape, toddlers, strollers, and even wheelchairs. The run isn't timed which adds to the laid back feel.
As an aside, the powder did eventually come off, but it was a huge mess. I had remnants along my scalp and my eyebrows for a couple of days (thanks to my niece for drawing on my unibrow). But luckily the bulk of it came out after one shower.
