It's November.

People.  It's November.  I guess I'm still recovering from all the Halloween fun.  It's been a really busy week.

Some random thoughts:

One.
Our street is not great for trick-or-treating.  We handed out candy and glow bracelets to 20 kids, maybe a few more.  In contrast, my parents gave out candy to 450 (my dad counted) before running out of candy and turning off the lights at 7:30.  They are in a small town on a busy street.  I guess our street is dark, boring, and full of old people.  We didn't trick-or-treat, but Scout wore her spooky glow-in-the-dark pajamas and Nola wore her unicorn costume, but both fell asleep early.

Let's just ignore the mess in the background.
Two.
Making all of Scout's Halloween costumes and keeping up with the October blog theme was so much fun.  I have an idea for a month long theme for December.  It keeps me motivated.

Three.
Scout brought home her first piece of artwork from day care.  She's a natural.

Four.
I really want to have a family picture taken.  Despite the fact that, aside from Scout, our little family isn't all that comfortable in front of the camera or all that photogenic.  I'm way behind the eight ball on this, so I'm not sure I can make it happen anyway.  We want a casual picture that's not overly posed and doesn't run the risk of ending up on Awkward Family Photo.  I emailed a great local photographer today and she offered a cancellation appointment for tomorrow, but I had to decline because we need to figure out something to wear (or we'll show up as a well-dressed baby with parents in grungy jeans and college sweatshirts) and I need some hair color.  Any suggestions on what we should wear that will look semi-coordinated without being irritatingly matchy-matchy?  Maybe I should just set up the tripod and remote.  The only way that Rykert will participate is if Nola is also involved.

Five.
Speaking of Nola, Rykert received a message on Facebook this week telling us that Nola's parents had a surprise (unplanned) litter of puppies.  While I admit to being a little irritated with their irresponsible pet ownership, I can't help but say, "Awwww."  I'm not tempted in the least to bring another dog home, though.  We've got enough going on, but they will be very nice dogs for someone and I hope they find really nice homes for all of them.

Six.
I have been out of it lately.  We are taking a trip next spring with my sisters and parents.  I finally got around to booking our tickets, and booked the wrong return date.  I think Rykert and I can still make it work, but I can't believe I did it.  I'm usually more careful.

Seven.
I have a lot of things I want to get done this month.  The first being a re-commitment to working out and eating better.  It's time; even if it means getting up even earlier.  I also have lots of projects I'd like to tackle, and I need to de-clutter my house starting with my closet that's still full of maternity clothes and other stuff I'll never wear again.  As I pulled out my niece's Halloween power suit, I found lots more, and I don't wear suits.

Our neighborhood is similar. We don't have many children and very few, if any, trick-or-treaters. What has become common in DM neighborhoods is to drive your kids to the popular trick-or-treating areas rather than staying where you like. Very different from when I grew up.

Pick a shirt out of your closet that really looks good on you and compliments your skin tone. Then find something in a contrast/compliment in your husband's closet. Finish with something for Scout that ties them all together. Avoid prints or strong graphics. Reasoning: Us women are the more critical of our appearances, so if we are happy with our presentation, we are likely to be happier with the results. Baby will look adorable no matter what, and men have an easier time looking good.
Puppies, I love puppies!!!
