7 years.

Seven years ago today, I got married.  And while in those early years, babies weren't on our mind, I feel pretty lucky that we ended up here.  Seven years really isn't that long.  My frame of reference: my parent's will celebrate 40 years this spring and my grandparent's have been married over 60.

We met almost 11 years ago.  I know it was the Saturday of MLK weekend, but I'm not one for remembering dates.  I had just returned to college after being accepted early into law school over the holiday, and I had resolved to spend that final semester with my friends and enjoying all of my favorite parts of New Orleans.  A few days later, my roommate and I had plans to go out with a friend of hers.  The friend brought her boyfriend who brought his new roommate, Rykert.  He was fresh (I mean within hours) from a crazy trip to Colorado that left him with a separated shoulder.  Anyway, we went out.  Then we went out some more.  By the next fall, he had moved to Iowa where I was in law school.  We lived in a tiny studio apartment.  And the rest...
