Halloween, Part II: Little Red

I wanted to make Scout a red hooded cape.  It's as simple as that.  There are lots of cute Little Red costumes on the interwebs, and I think it's a particularly cute costume for a 3-4 year old.  But it's pretty cute in a 6 month size too.

I'm going to be honest, I'm looking for more occasions appropriate for wearing a red hooded cape.

Materials
White onesie
1/2 yard red gingham fabric
1 yard red wool felt
2 buttons
1/2 yard 1/4" elastic (to attach skirt to onesie)
2 yards red gingham ribbon (cape trim)

The dress is really simple - a rectangle of fabric, elasticized and attached to a onesie.  This simple dress will actually be the base for a lot of these costumes.

The cape required some geometry, but essentially it's a big half circle with a smaller circle cut for the neck and then a rectangle added for the hood.  I had hoped to be more detailed in my instructions, but lost track of the camera in the process.

If there's interest, I can try to explain the method in a separate post.

We used a pink long john for our 3 month old. I sewed some fuchsia pink fabric into a chest plate and made a matching cap and she went as piglet! Love the outfits. Keep them coming.
