Handknits in Real Life

Before I even thought about having a baby of my own, I loved knitting baby things.  I'm a firm believer that every knitter's first sweater should be a baby sweater.  I have a bin full of things I've knit but never used.  Before Scout was born, I pulled out all of the baby stuff, and hung it in her closet.

Last week, fall arrived.  I was working late most days, and Rykert was home with Scout.  The weather had unxpectedly (to me) turned cool, and I was excited to find that Rykert had pulled out one of those sweaters.

And it's a good thing he did, because it's just nearly too small. So we had to formally document its existence.

Her hospital hat had a similar story. It was a hat that I originally knit for a friend using discontinued colors of Lion Brand Cotton Ease. But once it was finished and I knew I couldn't buy more of that color of yarn, I kept it just in case. I'm so glad I did.

And 5 months later, it still sort of fits.

So sweet! It's always a crap shoot when making baby things. Will they fit at the right season is a question you ponder and never really have the answer to.
