3 Months

Dear Scout,

Scout 3 months rug 04

I absolutely cannot believe it, but today you are 3 months old. 3 months!! I just can't believe how time is flying. Last week we sat you in your bouncy seat, and I remembered how tiny you were the first time you sat in there. It's amazing. You're definitely not a newborn anymore. In fact, unless you are really tired, you do not want to be cradled like a baby. You want to be in a sitting position and facing out to see the world. Sometimes you catch the lights of the tv or a blur of Nola as she passes. You give us big gummy smiles at all sorts of noises. You like it when I sing you showtunes in a dramatic musical theatre voice (and it doesn't matter that I can't sing), and sometimes you mimic my facial expressions and stick your tongue out at me.

You are growing like a weed. I swear that some nights I put you to bed, and by the next morning, you've nearly outgrown your onesie. You are also getting so strong. Your head and neck muscles are strengthening every day, and you can hold your head up on your own for longer and longer.

You're still a little young for the Bumbo, but your dad is OBSESSED with it. So we practice for a few minutes at a time with a spotter.

You've discovered your hands, and you often can't decide if you'd rather suck on your fists or your pacifier. You're also starting to grasp your blanket, the burp cloth, our shirts, toys, anything with a nice texture.

Your first homemade crinkly toy. And you seem to like it.

When you are laying on your back or during tummy time, you've started rocking from side to side and scooting yourself with all the motion.

The biggest change this month is that I've been back to work, and you've been spending most of your days with your dad. It's been so good for both of you. He's become quite adept at carrying you around the house one-handed, changing diapers, making bottles, and on and on. As much as I wish I was home, I'm glad he's had this time alone with you. I don't know what the two of you do all day.

You've also spent some afternoons with your aunt and cousins who think you are pretty cute. And last week, you started to spend a few hours a day at day care to begin the transition. At day care, they hold you, let you swing, and think you are pretty darn cute. When I get off work on the afternoons you are at day care, I cannot get there fast enough to pick you up. I curse every red light. Last week, they told me that you had "played" with your friend Penny. I'm not sure what that means, but I think it means that the two of you laid on the floor in the same general vicinity and occasionally glanced at one another. Regardless, I'm glad you are making "friends."

More changes are in store in the next month as we start a new routine in August. But I can't wait to see what lies ahead. At night we sit and listen to you coo and watch you smile and try to get you interested in toys, and we wonder what we ever did without you.

Love,
Mom.

Oh Libby - she is so precious and looks like such a happy baby. And you sound so happy :) How special that she can spend some good quality time with her daddy, too. Keep enjoying these little moments - I know everyone says it, but it goes wayyyyyy too quickly!
