Part IV: Wonder Woman Costume and a Preview

One of the final touches for the WW Costume was the cape. At first, I didn't think that I would make a cape. It's the cliche of the superhero world, and in the early years of the Wonder Woman character, she didn't have one. But suddenly, I had all of these things to hide on the back of the costume, and well, it would provide a bit extra coverage.

I looked at lots of pictures of the tv cape. Measured my neck to heel (in the boot) measurement, and made a pattern. I should have stopped during the pattern making stage to take a picture. But it was a 2 person job that started with a piece of brown craft paper 100" x 50" taped to the kitchen floor. A Sharpie tied to a piece of string served as the compass. I then divided the semi-circle into the various wedges, cut the pattern, and then very, very carefully cut the fabric out. The fabric still ended up a bit wonky thanks to my imperfect pattern and inability to cut a straight line.

The fabric is costume satin which is very inexpensive this time of year, and I lined the entire cape to match.

I had intended to add embroidered stars throughout the cape like the original. But my attention span was waning, so maybe I'll add those another time. It's voluminous, and great for spinning.

Here's the preview of the whole thing. If you squint, you might be able to make it out.

Wonder Woman Costume - preview

After much deliberation, I went with the sequin trim on the top. I'm debating whether or not I'm going to be comfortable posting a full picture of me as Wonder Woman out here on the interwebs. Can't decide.... What do you think?
