Halloween 2009: Greek Goddess

The Wonder Woman costume was only part of my Halloween costuming this year. I also made costumes for my nieces and cousin. I started by asking each of my nieces what they wanted to be for Halloween. This started back in August, to give them plenty of time to mull it over and change their mind several times. Catalogs and websites were reviewed. Ultimately, they each picked something.

Grace was first with her "Greek Goddess" idea. I drew a sketch of what I had in mind.

With her approval, we bought the fabric and got to work. I used a girl's flower girl/ first communion-type dress pattern as the base.

Once it was fitted, I added a sparkly gold cape, gold leaves at the shoulder, a bit of trim to the bottom, and the cord detail at the front.

In the picture, the gold cord still needs to be sewn in place. A gold cuff bracelet from the French Market in New Orleans and a gold leaf crown (not shown) finish off the ensemble.

Please note that once they put them on, I could not get them to stand still long enough for a full picture. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a better picture of the entire costume in its full effect.
