Halloween 2009: Flamenco

The weekend we went fabric shopping for my nieces' costumes, we were at my parent's. My cousin Julia, who is just a few weeks younger than my nieces, saw some of my alternate drawings, and decided she liked the Flamenco skirt.

Flamenco Idea

Well, I'm not sure if she as much decided she liked it or if it was heavily suggested by the other girls. But at any rate, I had an idea in mind and wanted to make it regardless.

I couldn't find a pattern for the type of skirt I had in mind. So I started with a very basic paneled skirt in black satin using this pattern, believe it or not.

Flamenco Base Pattern

Then I made big long ruffles and sewed them along the bottom to create some flounce. It was a fairly easy costume to sew, though ruffles seem endless during the process.

Flamenco Skirt

With a black leotard, a red flower in her dark hair, and some fishnets and she'll be ready to go. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of her in the skirt, so hopefully someone will send me a picture (and hopefully it will fit...)
