Go read this book.

This seems like an appropriate follow-up to my last post on my love affair with journals and doodling, where I could have waxed on (and on) about my love for pens. And office supplies in general.

But you really must go read this book. Or maybe I'm the last person to read it (I'm always late to the party). If that's the case, then shame on everyone I know for not telling me about it sooner. It's the Principles of Uncertainty by Maira Kalman based on her blog from the New York Times. (note, if you don't want to read the book, you can browse through most of the content over there, but really, this was a book I needed to own.)

Principles of Uncertainty

I really love the way she sees the world. And her use of color. And her beautiful drawings and paintings. And her fabulous handwriting.

She also writes kids books. So you should also check out, What Pete Ate, among others.

What Pete Ate

I love children's books. And she designed for Kate Spade. And she designed one of my favoritest bags that I own, my mom has the umbrella. In more good news, she restarted her NY Times blog this year. I was particularly enamored with this post.

I think I need a new copy of Strunk & White's Elements of Style, a book I haven't even thought of since college, for no other reason than to look at her illustrations.

One of the extra perks of my job (other than the fact that they allow me to work and give me a paycheck, which is absolutely no small thing these days) is access to a catalog of books from a sister company at a significant savings. So while I'm still reading on the Kindle. Books like these were made for print.
