Smells like Christmas

It's been a really crazy start to winter weather-wise. A few weeks ago I was on a conference call at work, and someone on the other end said that she had read in the Farmer's Almanac that we are supposed to have a catastrophic winter. This, of course, begged the question: what did they call last winter?

Well, every few days we've had some snow or ice since Thanksgiving. Yesterday, everyone was abuzz discussing the pending winter storm. It was originally supposed to hit by noon, then after 3, and then after 6 - apparently slowing down. It eventually hit and we now have a significant layer of ice covered by some snow - though thankfully not as much snow as other parts of the state and country. I did, however, see one of my neighbors snow-shoe to the bus stop this morning. (Which reminds me that I've been wanting to try cross-country skiing, and I just heard about a place that rents skis....)

As a result, I worked from home. I'm very lucky to have this option when the weather is bad, and since I worked for home part-time this fall for a bit, I'm all set up for it and can really be amazingly productive and far more efficient. Of course, there are certainly days that I need to be in the office, but on days like this it is very nice to have the option.

So during my lunch break, I whipped up some Chex Mix using The Pioneer Woman's recipe. And Chex Mix slowly baking in the oven smells like Christmas to me. Don't you think?

I still need to make some toffee. And I was hoping to make it to my parent's tomorrow morning for the weekend, but that's up in the air since another round of winter weather is coming at us.

When I lived in IC we could rent from Fin and Feather pretty cheap ($10). They groom some of the trails around IC, which is pretty nice for XC. I think at Sugarbottom?

I've been craving chex mix. I suspect it is because we've been having nothing but sweets at work and now I need something salty :)
