Doesn't it sort of make you hungry?

When I first saw the Have a Cupcake pattern on Ravelry, I knew I had to knit it. And I decided it would be the perfect pattern for my nieces Christmas hats. The problem was that I wanted to use yarn I had already acquired (before reading the pattern's gauge) and there was no way I would finish two of these at 8 stitches/ inch. So, using the original chart and some custom knitting graph paper, I reworked the chart essentially removing a cupcake from each of the 4 repeats.

I still really like the pattern. I like the finished hat, and I loved knitting this. I always forget how much I like knitting with multiple colors. It somehow makes me knit faster. So I finished the hat in 3 evenings (could have been 2 except I fell asleep early on the second night). I should mention that this still needs to be washed and blocked to even out some of the stitches.

Problem is, I think it's going to be too big. It fits me (and could be a bit smaller), but I'm not sure how it will fit a 7 year old. I'm going to somehow sneak this on one of their heads to see if it's even close before embarking on the second. I have enough yarn for one more but I'm not sure if I have enough for 2 more should I need to restart on smaller needles or re-rework the pattern.

Here's the details:
Pattern: Based on Have a Cupcake by Craftyminx (Ravelry Link)(The pattern is available as a Ravelry download)
Yarn: Plymouth Encore DK (purchased at Crazy Girl Coralville)
Needles: US 6

This hat is adorable! It's also the colors of the cake shop I know work for. Coincidence? I think not!
