Living all Oprah-like.

I get my news from 3 primary sources:

(1) The New York Times (online);
(2) NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered; and
(3) The Daily Show

I was going to include Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood to that list or maybe Pink is the New Blog, but decided to leave it with the top 3 sources of non-celebrity news.

Anyway, yesterday on my drive home, I was listening to All Thing's Considered. They did a short segment featuring the woman behind Living Oprah. Have you seen this blog? This woman has decided to live the Oprah life for 1 year taking all of her assignments and directives from Oprah: Buy white jeans and leopard print flats. Check. Taste a Moon Pie. Check. Buy Suzie Orman's latest book? Have a Girl's Night Out and go see Sex and the City. And on. And on.

At any rate it's an interesting social experiment and commentary on the role we allow celebrities to have in our lives. Oprah is the source of frequent ridicule at our house: "What? Oprah is on the cover of her own magazine again this month!?" What low-fat banana muffin recipe did Oprah tell us to use? Where can I get that $300 cashmere sweater featured on her Favorite Things? What book should I be reading?

I like the position taken by the Living Oprah blog. While I have respect for what Oprah does on a global level. I think her audience may, at times, take it to the extreme, and she may take herself a bit too seriously for my taste. Self-righteous is what I usually think when on those rare occasions when I catch an episode of Oprah. If only we all had unlimited resources to live our best Oprah lives.

Today, I will lose 60 pounds, gain 80 pounds, then drop 10 more after dinner. And I will cry at each mile stone, cue piano music. So let it be written, so let it be done.
