Something you didn't know...

Something you probably didn't know about me was that I like to watch football. Yes, it is true. This has nothing to do with the miserable year I spent as a cheerleader in high school. I'm not a super fan, and my living room (or any room for that matter) is not decorated in our team colors. But I do like watching football with Rykert - usually while knitting (ha - I just made this little story relevant to this blog).

Yesterday we got home from my parent's around 7 p.m., and then went to the grocery store. Once the groceries were put away, the laundry was started, and a few bills were paid, it was time for me to go to bed (being that I hadn't been to work in almost 2 weeks and was overwhelmed at the prospect of being up by 6 (or 6:30 as was the case today). So, I left Rykert to his bowl game (some Juicy Fruit bowl or something). [ASIDE: Don't get me started on the bowl system and the complete ridiculousness of it.] By 11:30, I awoke to Rykert screaming at the T.V. in disbelief. "What's wrong?" I yelled. "It's one for the ages. You won't believe this," he yelled back. I promptly went back to sleep. Well apparently there were 2 touchdowns (one being a hook and ladder, no less) in less than 90 seconds. An amazing overtime play, "The Old Statue of Liberty" (anybody else remember the episode of The Brady Bunch where this play played a prominent role?). And to top it all off, the Boise State crocheting running back (who crochets skulls caps and has a list a mile long of people wanting to buy one, but his business enterprise is restricted by the NCAA rules) proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend during the post-game interview. Seriously. As Rykert recounted this game to me early this morning, I was convinced that he had been watching some cheesy football movie starring that guy from Dawson's Creek.

Here's the ESPN story about Boise State's Ian Johnson's mastery of the crochet hook...

All I have to say is that it is a shame that Boise State didn't get the respect it deserves and isn't playing in the national title game. Sort of similar to what happened to my alma mater back in 1998-1999. Undefeated and still a lack of respect by the powers that be (the bullshit BCS). Just remember that as you are watching the mythical national championship game or some other meaningless bowl game.
Now, I've never even been to Idaho, but how could you not be a Boise State fan last night (oh, and they have a royal blue football field).

Football talk ends here (well until the play offs, right Rykert?). Knitting content will return soon. I promise.

Libby,

You forgot to mention Auburn getting hosed 2 years ago.

Also, you failed to mention that the C is a silent C in B_S

sorry I woke you up

Loving Rykert's comment about the C in BCS! That game was the first thing we talked about in the office this morning. Wow!
