Getting ready to feast.

I'm heading out of town this evening so that I can help with the Thanksgiving preparations at my parents. Rykert will be joining me either very late Wednesday night or first thing on Thursday because of his work schedule. The thing about big holiday meals is the utter excess of food. It doesn't matter how large of group we are having, we tend to prepare the same massive amount of food. So, while the menu hasn't been completely nailed down yet, here are some of the contenders (linked recipes are just starting points):

Pre-feasting Vittles
Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Spicy Pups
Shrimp (maybe with Remoulade Sauce)
Buffalo Chicken Dip (I probably won't make this, but I've been wanting to try it.)

The Feast
Salad (still trying to decide on a recipe)
Turkey (this is all my dad)
Oyster Dressing (this is Rykert's request, maybe I'll make a small portion)
Scalloped Corn (Granny will bring this, and use her own recipe)
Glazed Carrots
Classic Green Bean Casserole
Bread (my younger sister is responsible for this)

Pumpkin Pie
Caramel Apple Pie
Mini Cheesecakes

So what are your holiday favorites and what are you having?

Libby, what a busy week, for both of us. I am hosting my husband's family this year (2nd year in a row) and I'm pretty excited about our menu. Yours looks delicious. I took your cheesecake idea :) instead of baking another pie.

I do want to recommend this recipe for artichoke spinach dip over the one you have. I've tried them all, and this one is amazing. Everyone begs me to make it anywhere I go.

Spicy pups...those sound good. Are they anything like hush puppies?

Enjoy your thanksgiving!

Believe it or not, I'm having a low-fat Thanksgiving meal. Have to. Doctor's orders.
