Yarn binge...

So, I've been on a bit of a yarn binge of late. This is partially thanks to a dry period of yarn acquisition, and partially attributed to my recent re-entering into the world of ebay. I used to bid on purses (i.e. my Kate Spade addiction during law school) and all sorts of stuff, but had convinced myself to stop. But then came the newest round of yarn bidding.

First we have 14 skeins of Noro Cash Iroha

This will become the Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I've been wanting to knit this sweater for some time, and when I found the suggested yarn at a steal - I couldn't resist. This is a spendy yarn - it's that silk and cashmere content - that I would normally not be able to justify. However, I picked this lot up for far less than half its retail value. Can't wait to get started on this, but we'll likely wait until closer to fall.

Next is 12 balls of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Cavern.

Now, this yarn is a work horse. Seriously, I can see it being used for just about anything. This will likely become a sweater for Rykert, either the Adirondack Pullover (as suggested by Mandy a few months ago) or a simple drop neck design using The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns, and something for me (the lot is over 2400 yards). The cotton content will make it perfectly acceptable for our 2nd anniversary - if I can keep myself focused on the project. Oh, and there is no way that I'll be able to knit a project of that size without letting him know - so the secret is out.

I've also been bidding, and losing on toys from my past. Like the Fashion Plates - $38! I wonder how much it cost brand new? Or the Tomy Flip and Fold Fashions. Both my sister and I remember having these - those little plastic hats and boots and scraps of fabric. Anyone else? I can't believe my mom threw them away.

I'm also the proud owner of a brand new bike. I went to the shops in search of a bubblegum pink beach cruiser, but was quickly convinced that this was not a wise purchase. The salesmen and Rykert both thought that I would be miserable on a bike without gears - even if my intent is only to ride it short distances to the store and post office. So, I ended up with a Raleigh hybrid that is hot pink. I'll share pics once I find a basket.

Woah, I'm way jealous of your Cash Iroha and ensuing hourglass. Way jealous. Moving with my stash, which is really small by stash standards, has convinced me that I must knit down the stash before I buy more. Must. Non-negotiable. Congratulations on the good snag!

Oooh, pretty. Good job bidding!

I'm envious of your bike, too. I'm looking at bikes that my kid keeps referring (derisively) to as "beach cruisers" -- the ones I'm looking at don't come in pink, but there is a pretty blue one ... They do have gears, though. Can't wait to see pictures of yours!

My husband and I bought bikes recently. Thought we wanted something like a cruiser, but realized we needed gears and on road/off road capibility. Ended up with a hybrid type too.

I think I remember the fashion plates, and they were so fun! I hope you can get yours soon.

I am very jealous that you got a pink bike! But very happy for you, esp. that you have one with gears. :) When I first got my bike (cranberry), my husband used to drive me nuts always telling me from behind what gear to use. But now that I have gotten used to them, they make even the smallest hills SO much easier. Good luck with it -- can't wait to see the photos!!
