Buzzzzzzzzzzz.....

It's been quite awhile since I've actually completed anything for The Preemie Project. See post below for details of my startitis. But then Laura announced that the group would be knitting hats and booties in Hawkeye colors for the fall donation. (For those who don't know, the hospital we support is part of the University of Iowa; the mascot is the hawkeye; and the colors are black and gold.) Luckily, my never-ending stash of Cotton Ease includes a few balls of Licorice and Pineapple (cute names for Black and Gold). As soon as I cast on for the brim, I was pretty sure that my interpretation of these colors would have to create this:
bumblebee hat1
I'm enamored with the result. Therefore, Preemie Project knitting for the forseeable future will include hats that look like stuff. Can't you just see a nursery full of ladybugs, bumblebees, cupcakes, apples, pineapples, and of course pumpkins. Any other bugs, animals, or foods that translate into cute hats for babies?

Yea! I love the bee stripes. There are several animal hat patterns on lion's website. Quite cute.

What a sweet hat!

I don't know if you've seen her site lately, but the Yarn Harlot has posted some recent photos of baby hats, a watermelon or strawberry hat for a baby girl, and a pumpkin hat for a boy. Hope that helps!

I was going to mention the watermelon hat too! Here's the instructions, but I wonder if the beads would be too much for the little heads? Maybe duplicate stitch would be better?? http://community.livejournal.com/knitting/7142602.html

This has always been the "hat that looks like something" that I drool over though: http://www.knitwhits.com/flore.shtml

Love it! When I heard we should start making black and gold hats, the first thing I thought of was a bumblebee. Great job on this hat!
