Being Random.

I mentioned a post or so ago that I was planning a felting project inspired by Alterknits. In particular, it's the felted stash bag. So, step 1 was to gather up all the random bits and lonely skeins of wool that are laying around. I found more than I thought I would. Here's my basket of those that I decided to use.

In it you will find Cascade 220, Plymouth Galway, Brown Sheep Naturespun Worsted, Kool Aid dyed Fisherman's Wool, Noro Kureyon, and other assorted bits of worsted weight wool. I'm hoping to cast on this afternoon before getting the pasta roller out for some homemade ravioli.

The only problem that I see with this stash bag, other than the miles of stockinette stitch that is required, is trying to be random. I fear that my anal retentive side will kick in and I'll over analyze which colors to us in which order. I'll have to remind myself to keep the number of rows and color choices random.

checkerboard cakeYesterday, I spent the day with the fam for my mom's birthday. Here's the annual checkerboard cake. My dad makes it for her birthday every year.

The stash bag will be so fun!

Your DAD makes your MOM a cake?? Oh of course he does... he's a spoon maker! And the cake looks so awesome. I need to tell my husband that's what he should do. :)

That's an amazing cake; how sweet!

I love all of those colors you're planning to use. I can't wait to see how it works up!

Beautiful cake! And beautiful selection of colors. Set up a "system" to make it random -- put the yarn in a brown paper bag or other opaque container and just use whatever color you pull out. Toss some dice to pick how many rows you're going to knit for the current color. (Or assign each number a color and toss the dice to pick that, too. Here are some virtual dice: http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks1/maths/dice/) I'm sure you can come up with something to make it as random as reasonably possible. It looks like a great project.

Good luck with the bag. I like Debbie's suggestion about making the choices random. I would have a problem with that too. I would definitely take Debbie's advice.

That is a fun and beautiful palette there! Love the colors. I think there is an online random stripe generator... perhaps you can Google it?

Good luck, and can't wait to see more!

I think it would be hard for me to be random too. Maybe you could just roll some dice or something like that to help pick the yarn to use next.
